Literature Text

People fear that which they do not understand
That fear soon begins to grow into a burning hate
I have been shunned by all of creation
All who live cower in the fear that I may come
All but the old, the ones who come willingly into my welcoming arms
Their souls so cold, shivering as I carry them away
Sometimes I'll sing lullabies to the youngest, although it doesn't help much
I wish to wipe away their tears, tell them everything will be alright
But that is something I cannot do, despite what I may want
Although I must say, it's the people who are left behind I pity
It breaks my darkly beating heart to see them mourn their loss
I don't get breaks, I've never had a vacation
If anything I've been working harder than ever
It feels like a never ending conveyer belt of souls to be collected
I shouldn't complain though, it won't make anything better
I just have to accept the fact that until the end of time, this is what I must do
After all, if I don't do it, then who will?
From the perspective of Death, I was inspired to write this from reading the book "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak (my favourite book of all time) XD Also, check out my drawing of Death from this poem ---> [link]
